Willing to be made willing

John 7:17 Anyone who chooses to do the will of God will find out whether my teaching comes from God or whether I speak on my own.

Let’s read it in The Voice version: John 7:17 If anyone is willing to act according to His purposes and is open to hearing truth, he will know the source of My teaching. Does it come from God or from Me?

The first part of the verse just grabbed me. He wants us to willingly and joyfully obey him. He wants us to follow his wise leadership. God as our always-good Father wants us to see the wisdom of his good purposes and come to him without our own ideas and agendas. He wants us to listen to his heart and lean in and trust him that he knows what’s holy and best, and then act on that.

But let’s get real: I have often prayed, “Honestly, God, right now I am not willing, but I am willing to be made willing to do what I know is according to your purposes. That’s all I can offer you. Make me willing, or if not, give me grace to trust and obey.”

Whatever he says, will you do it? Wherever he leads, will you follow?
